Strengthens hair during postpartum period

If you have been pregnant, you will have noticed: during pregnancy hair falls out less. The increase in estrogen, especially from the second trimester of pregnancy, keeps the vast majority of hair in growth phase causing the daily hair loss decreases. It is during the third trimester of pregnancy, a time of higher estrogen levels (estriol), that you will feel your hair stronger, healthier and thicker than ever.

Hair care during pregnancy

If you are at this time, you should be aware that hormones can cause changes in your scalp.

Most commonly, sebaceous secretion in the scalp will increase and your hair may feel greasier. Our recommendation is to use a natural and vegan shampoo that can balance and purify the scalp

If, on the other hand, your hair feels drier, we recommend using a moisturizing and repairing shampoo, always natural, free of silicones, parabens and sulfates.

Tips for preventing postpartum hair loss

What happens during the postpartum period? After childbirth, the situation is reversed and hair loss increases dramatically. We are not exaggerating. After combing your hair, it's normal to see your brush full of hair, to feel that after the shower you lose a lot more hair or that there are hairs on your pillow when you wake up. First of all, calm down! Hair loss after giving birth is a normal physiological process, but it can be slowed down if you follow a proper hair care routine and a balanced diet. Take note!

Postpartum hair routine

Postpartum hair is weaker than normal so it is essential to use quality products and, above all, respectful of your scalp. What do we mean by respectful? Well, they must be natural, i.e. free of sulfates, parabens and silicones.

Our recommendation is to use a line of natural and vegan products that are specifically formulated to strengthen hair, increase its density and stop hair loss. Our Fortify Plus  line can help. It is formulated with orange stem cells and yellow cinchona, among other natural active ingredients, and works effectively to prevent hair loss.

In addition, combined with our Detox & Control conditioner, it is perfect to nourish the scalp without making it greasy. Super useful during the postpartum period when your hair may feel greasier!

The care routine is important but you should also try to take care of your hair avoiding the use of heat tools such as irons or hair dryers.  And, if you want to cut your hair, a haircut (never better said) is also a good option to renew the mane and recover it from the root.

Postpartum nutrition

Diet is also essential to stop hair loss after giving birth. Some foods contain vitamins and minerals that can help you strengthen your hair.

  • Vitamin B12: Ingredients containing this vitamin are essential during the postpartum period. You will find it in legumes, nuts, oatmeal, and certain vegetables and fruits such as avocado, tomato or broccoli.
  • Omega 3 fatty acids: they are present in oily fish and some vegetables.
  • itamin A, E and C: taking ingredients with these vitamins is necessary to generate collagen. Vitamin A favors the creation of keratin and you will find it in foods of animal origin such as eggs, meat, milk... And also in certain vegetables such as broccoli or spinach. Vitamin E is present in nuts, seeds and the oils produced from them. Finally, Vitamin C is found in fruits and vegetables such as melon, kiwi, citrus fruits, pineapple, red fruits, peppers and broccoli.
  • Foods high in calcium, iron, iodine and zinc.

We recommend that you consult a specialist who can recommend a diet rich in all these nutrients, and remember to drink plenty of fluids!

The combination of a proper diet and an anti-hair loss hair care routine will help you to stop the sudden and abrupt hair loss, so common during the postpartum period.
