All about the Curly Method

The Curly Method is fashionable and has not stopped being a trend since Lorraine Massey, curly hair guru, created it to achieve a hair care routine that will respect your curls more. This means by providing hydration, nutrition and definition, and reducing frizz.

To achieve this, the Curly Method focuses on the hydration of your curls since it is the basis for achieving greater volume and definition, always in a natural way.

At this point, Lorraine Massey established the first rule of the Curly Method: it is essential to choose the right products for your hair. This is important as NOT all products are worthy of your hair.

Which products are suitable for the Curly Method

Products suitable for the Curly Method are those that don’t contain silicones, sulfates, parabens, or alcohols. Why is that so? Well, because the shampoos, conditioners or masks that contain these substances drag the natural oils from the scalp causing dryness. The opposite of what the Curly Method wants!

In order to hydrate the hair, natural substitutes have been found such as glycerin or coconut, olive, jojoba oils... We are very happy to say that ALL of our products are suitable for the Curly Method. Specifically, the Curl Defining line, formulated with Abyssinian and coconut oil. The Curl Defining line is ideal for applying the Curly Method since it is 100% respectful with your curly hair and it doesn’t contain silicones, sulfates, parabens (etc, etc, etc.).

What steps to follow in the Curly Method

The Curly Method has a very clear application mode based on 5 steps:

  1. Last wash / Final wash: The first step of the method consists of using a sulfate shampoo for the LAST TIME to remove all residues present in the hair (silicones, waxes and petroleum derivatives) and the leave it clean.
  2. Co-Wash: it is an ideal method to hydrate the curls since it consists of washing the hair with a natural conditioner. This type of product, despite popular belief, also serves to clean hair because it contains cleaning agents in its formula. After doing the Co-Wash, your hair will feel clean, soft and shinier.
  3. Conditioner: After washing your hair, apply a conditioner (always natural!) Apply this to the ends of your hair to avoid tangles and it provides more movement for your curl. After this step, your hair will be much more hydrated and nourished.
  4. Leave-in: And we continue to hydrate your hair! Apply a leave-in conditioner to retain moisture in your hair for longer.
  5. Curl definition: There are many techniques to define curl. We recommend that you try and choose the one that works best with your hair. However, there is something important that you ALWAYS do: apply the curl defining product when your hair is very wet, that is, right after using the leave-in conditioner. In this way, you will be able to avoid the frizz that bothers you so much.
  6. Drying: This is the last step, but in many cases, the most important. Drying curly hair correctly is essential so that the hair ends up gaining volume and flexibility in a natural way. To do this, we recommend using a microfiber towel (cotton ones can cause frizz) to slide it over the mane. Also avoid heat tools (irons, dryers ...) and air dry your hair. And lastly, don't brush your hair once it's dry! Use your hands to shape the curls and detangle them if necessary.

As you can see, it is an easy method to apply and that provides extra hydration to your curly hair. If you have questions, do not hesitate in writing us. We are here to help you! As well as our Curl Defining line.

Don’t forget and keep in mind that, as it is a change in routine, the effects are not immediate. It will take about 3 weeks to start feeling the results.
